Speak out: Omandam's claim By Karapatan-Central Visayas
We are challenging Lt. Col. Jefferson Omandam of the AFP-Central Command to allow independent, civilian agencies to trace the registry of the firearms allegedly taken from the site of the massacre in Palo, Leyte Monday morning.
We are confident that any objective party can easily establish that the alleged firearms are traceable to the soldiers who planted these against the protesting farmers.
It is clear that the military lacks the credibility and expertise in handling evidence. Omandam himself has already prejudged the incident and cleared his troops of foul play even before he could make an ocular inspection on the crime scene.
Civilian forensic experts can easily establish that fingerprints on the firearms belonged to the soldiers.
These are standard operating procedures that Omandam should have waited first before swallowing hook, line and sinker the rehashed storyline of the 19th IB troopers.
