Cops set December deadline to catch broadcaster’s killer

If the task force assigned to investigate the death of radioman George Benaojan fails to catch the suspected gunman and the mastermind before their deadline, police might offer a reward for the arrest of Roberto “Dinky” Jagdon.

Supt. Vicente Loot, acting Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) director, yesterday said they are giving themselves until the end of the month to go after Jagdon, a former boxer, and the mastermind.

“After that, we might expand our search and request for assistance. We may also put up a reward to involve the community,” Loot said.

Loot still does not know how much they are willing to give for Jagdon’s capture, as this needs deliberation.

He has provided security escorts for witness Adriano “Jammy” Llanos and his family, after the witness reported feeling threatened.

Loot said Llanos noticed some people staking out his stall at the South Central Market in Lawaan 3, Talisay City and roaming his residence.

Llanos was with Benaojan last Dec. 1 when a lone gunman shot Benaojan in front of his stall at the South Central Market.

He has reportedly submitted an application form for the witness protection program to Talisay City Prosecutor Marshall Rubia.

Loot said he is recommending that Llanos be placed under the govern-ment’s witness protection program because he is a vital witness to the crime.

It was Llanos who drove Benaojan’s Mitsubishi Pajero to the Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City.

Llanos reportedly broke into tears when he was shown a photograph of Jagdon and immediately pointed to him as the gunman.

Police are now working to arrest Jagdon and establish a link to a suspected mastermind. (MEA)
