Explain failure to go after drugs, gambling: 20 police chiefs told

Twenty police chiefs in Cebu Province will be asked to explain their failure to conduct operations and implement the police flagship programs from Nov. 21 to 27.

Supt. Vicente Loot, director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), sent a memorandum to the police stations of Naga, Sibonga, Argao, Alcoy, Boljoon, Oslob, Santander, Ginatilan, Malabuyoc, Alegria, Badian, Moalboal, Asturias, San Remigio, Tuburan, Tabogon, Poro, Pilar, Consolacion and Danao City yesterday.

Police flagship programs include campaigns against drugs, gambling, wanted persons, illegal firearms and violations of environmental laws.

Loot told reporters that before the Southeast Asian Games, he held a conference wherein some of these towns were already in the list of poor or zero performers.

Punishments

Their performance was brought up in a meeting with the Provincial Development Council where Loot warned that there would be “probable punishments” if they wouldn’t act soon.

In his memo, Loot told his chiefs of police to explain within 72 hours why they should not be given administrative sanctions.

Loot said he has already requested the mayors of the towns and cities under the CPPO’s jurisdiction to rate the performance of their chiefs of police.

He said he will decide if anyone should be replaced based on these ratings.

Loot will not sanction the police chiefs if they can justify their zero performance, saying there were some towns that did not have target personalities for illegal gambling and drugs. (MEA)
