Repairs force VSMMC to limit neurosurgery, admissions to OB
Starting yesterday the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) has stopped accepting additional patients for the obstetrics (OB) ward.
The hospital, which is the only well-equipped government hospital outside Luzon, is also suspending neurosurgeries.
The OB ward is already filled with patients and because of an ongoing structural repair in the ward, hospital officials decided to maintain the current number.
An exception is made in an emergency situation where a pregnant woman needs surgery to save her life and her baby.
Filomena delos Santos, VSMMC medical center chief, said except for the OB and the neuro-operations, hospital operations remain normal.
She said they have no definite date when the limiting of patients at the OB and the suspension of neurosurgery will last. She said the repair works will take weeks. (AIV)
