Woman found dead on vacant lot

A woman who was last seen Thursday night was found dead in a vacant lot in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue ity early yesterday morning.

Josephine Ochige, 30, a resident of Quiot, Cebu City, was naked when found in the area along a newly opened road at the reclamation area.

A cable wire about a meter long was found near her body.

She had wounds around her neck and bruises in different parts of the body.

Her boyfriend, security guard Marvin Montero, is now under police custody after investigators found that his statements regarding where he was last Thursday conflicted with statements of other sources.

Montero told Subang-daku police he wasn’t on duty last Thursday. But a source said he reported to work that day and was even seen talking with Ochige.

Ochige’s coworker at an eatery in Cebu City also said Ochige went to Mandaue City after work last Thursday to meet her boyfriend.

Their statements will be used in the filing of a case against Montero.

SPO4 Raul Noynay, of the Subangdaku Police Station, said yesterday that Ochige’s pink handbag was found a short distance from Montero’s post.

Her shirt, pants and underwear were inside the bag.

Ochige’s sister-in-law went to the police station yesterday morning after hearing radio reports that a dead woman had been found.

She later identified Ochige’s body at the Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels.

Autopsy results were not yet available as of yesterday afternoon.

By being at the right place at the right time, policemen who went looking for Montero through a friend found Montero himself.

In an interview, Noynay said he and two other policemen were able to pick up Montero for investigation when the latter showed up around noon at an eatery in Cebu City where Montero’s friend worked.

Montero was brought to the Subangdaku Police Station around 1:30 p.m.

Police are still trying to locate another person whom they believe was with Montero at the time the crime was committed.

Montero will be held under police custody pending the filing of appropriate charges against him. (AAG)
