Serna: Black Darna in Cebu! By Roger Serna \Sounds and images
She essayed other roles before, but I think her most remarkable role, though short-lived, was when she played the role of Black Darna, an adversary to Angel Locsin’s real Darna in the recently concluded teleseries on the exploits of the Filipino heroine.
Of course, she’s Katrina Halili. Tomorrow, her growing number of fans will have the chance to catch a closer look at their idol. Katrina is Rosemarie Gaisano’s celebrity guest for the Gaisano Main and Country Mall’s first grand draw of A Million Thanks Family Car Promo where a Suzuki APV will be given away plus 10 Samsung TVs and 10 refrigerators.
Katrina will also be rendering some song numbers so be there when it happens. She’ll be at Gaisano Main at 7 p.m. then at Country Mall at around 8 p.m. Take note.

Yours truly chose to skip another important event just to stay glued in front of the television last Saturday for the big night of Pinoy Big Brother.
What a grand finale it was at the Clark Expo. For sure, had the venue been any nearer, many Cebuanos would have trooped to the place to personally feel the excitement. However, watching it on TV was exciting enough.
Although I sensed Nene was a strong bet, I chose Jason because of his bubbly character. He ended up second, anyway, and ran home P300,000 richer, plus an entertainment showcase.
Not bad, eh? Had Uma’s being born of a Cebuana mother been played up and capitalized on by the housemate, that could have spelled a lot of difference. The Cebuanos could have given him tremendous support.
So, is it true that in the next edition, at least one slot is already ‘reserved’ for a Cebuano? The Cebuano televiewers’ support of the ‘teleserye ng totoong buhay’ despite not having an ‘official’ rep had reportedly encouraged ABS-CBN bigwigs to think of that possibility. How’s that?

Two other shows featuring big-named performers are also happening in different parts of the metropolis. Platinum-selling composer-recording artist Jose Mari Chan will be at the SM City Cebu Cinema 2 Centerstage tomorrow for the show A Perfect Christmas (obviously inspired by his beautiful and award-winning song).
Curtains rise at 8:39 p.m. What a perfect way to open up the countdown for Christmas day!

Meanwhile, Asia’s Queen of Song Pilita Corrales (and a milk brand’s celebrity endorser for strong bones because of her back-breaking back bends) will be enthralling casino habitués at the Budyong Hall of the Casino Filipino-Mactan, also tomorrow.
Dubbed An Evening With Pilita, the show will start at 8 p.m. Make your choice or if you wish, lay out a plan to be able to enjoy the two shows. As to how you do it, perhaps using your super powers will spell the difference. Ha-ha!

The Filipina is again in the limelight because of the heroic and exemplary deed of London-based Bernadette Mimura who refused to undergo chemotherapy when diagnosed with breast cancer in the early stage of her pregnancy.
The treatment could have given her an extension of her life but would end that of her child right then and there, so she refused.
That was perhaps the ultimate sacrifice an expectant mother could do for her unborn son.
Expectedly, she died shortly after she gave birth (prematurely) to Nathan, but not after flashing that happy and contented smile of a mother whatching her newborn son.
Needless to say, that was what Christmas is all about: giving. Wow! How many of us were faced with somewhat similar situations but chose to go the easier route? Tough, eh?

This particular milk brand commercial never fails to catch my attention everytime it goes on TV. It has nothing to do with the endorser, he’s a nameless child anyway. Nor does the cute pet dog.
It’s the storyboard that makes it stand out, plus the line that goes: ‘a child that shares has a heart that cares.’ Heavy! Also very timely, right? Hopefully, the message comes across and will see practice in real lives.
Advance Merry Christmas!
