Inmate scheduled for release escapes Tabogon police station
An inmate scheduled for release could not wait to be freed. He escaped the Tabogon Police Station last Tuesday morning.
Policemen did not notice Osmeño “Esmit” Monares, 33, leave the station at 9 a.m.
Monares was charged for violation of the Anti-violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004 two months ago after he allegedly beat up his wife.
PO1 Ronnie Alivio said Monares was what they called a trustee in the police station.
Trustee is police lingo for someone tasked to do chores inside the police station.
Not interested
Alivio said they did not expect Monares to leave because his wife had said she was no longer interested to file a case against him.
Monares’ wife often visited him at the police station and that he was allowed to move around the station without handcuffs.
Alivio could not give other details about the escape, saying he was not on duty at the time.
However, he said they were waiting for the court to act on Monares’ motion to withdraw the case after his wife filed an affidavit of desistance.
The case is pending before the 5th Municipal Circuit Trial Court in Borbon.
Since the judge handling the case had not yet issued a release order, Alivio said they will continue to look for him and file another case against him for bolting jail. (MEA)
