Abapo defends crown
New Generation ALA Boy Bart Abapo will defend the RP Super Lightweight title for the first time against the boxer he beat for the same title, in the SGG Sports Promotions dubbed as “Rambolan sa Talibon” on Dec. 30 at the CPG Multi-Purpose Center in Talibon, Bohol.
Abapo won the title over Rex Marzan last March 5 and will tangle with the former champion for the third time in three years.
Vacated
In their last fight for the title vacated by Dindo Castañares, the Cebuano fighter scored an eight-round knockout, overcoming a knockdown on the second. It was Abapo’s second straight win over Marzan, after winning their first fight by unanimous decision in 2002.
After taking the crown, Abapo made a successful stint in Korea, scoring a bloody technical decision against Korea’s Dong Geun Jang last July. But he lost his next bout against the former WBA 130-pound champion Yodsanan Sor Nanthachai in Bangkok, Thailand.
Sammy Gello-ani promotes the Dec. 30 card in cooperation with the Local Government of Talibon headed by Mayor Juanario Item.
Fighting in the undercard is RP No.2 Light Flyweight contender Donnie Nietes, against Roldan Malinao of Butuan City.
Other bouts will feature Danny Bontilao against Roland Econas, Edwin Gastador against Ronald Postrano and Reman Salim against Phil Agcamor of the Kaamiño Stable in Cagayan de Oro City.
The curtain raiser events pits Milan Milendo and Tagbilaran’s Tiny Tyson fighting Rodel Emboy of Cagayan de Oro City and Peter Paul Suico, respectively.
There will also be special amateur boxing bouts featuring Talibon boxers against pugs from Cebu and Tagbilaran City. (RCM)
