Carolinians nail win
The University of San Carlos Boys School (USC-BS) started its Aspirant division campaign on a bright note as it survived an endgame blitz by Hoop It Up Basketball Camp to post a 50-46 win in the BAP-Visayas ML Kwarta Padala Cup 16-Under competition at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuits Gym yesterday.
Meanwhile today, the Inter-Secondary Junior wars continue with the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors playing the Consolacion National High School Black Shama, Don Bosco Greywolves taking on Hoop It Up and University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars pitting claws against University of Southern Philippines Baby Panthers.
The Carolinians’ good ball movement and tough defensive stance limited Hoop It Up, whose core is made up of players from Cebu Institute of Technology, to score only eight points in each of the first three quarters.
The Wildkittens rebounded in the final period as the Carolinians nearly lost a 12-point lead twice when Jordan Isidto rallied cause Hoop It Up to within four points in the final three minutes of the game.
USC-BS, however, kept its composure to keep the lead and preserve the win.
Brian Negapatan and Jouls Ferolino led the scorers of coach Rolan Remedio with 10 points each while Isidto and Kent Abejo topped Marvin Felicis-mentored Hoop It Up with 13 and 11 points respectively.
USC-BS (50) – Negapatan 10, Ferolino 10, Saberon 8, Remedio 8, Nuñeza 8, Te 3, Manaloto 2, Nator 1. Hoop It Up (46) – Isidto 13, Abejo 11, Quiroga 9, Borgonia 8, Cabrera 3, Maglasang 2. Quarters: 14-8; 24-16; 36-24; 50-46. (RCM)
