Speak Out: Can religion save our soul? By Jenner S. Lobedica San Remegio, Cebu
THE world today is saturated with various kinds of religion due to the belief that here is God who could save our soul from the raging fires of the Inferno, as revealed in the Holy Bible.
In our country, we have Roman Catholics, Seventh-Day Adventists, Iglesia ni Cristo, Pentecostals, Mormons, Baptists, Lutherans, Hare Khrishnas, Born-again Christians, Jagad-Guru and the Jesus is Lord Movement of Brother Eddie Villanueva.
Aside from these, there is Shintoism, which is popular in Japan; Buddhism, which is popular in a lot of Asian countries; and Islam, which is popular in the Middle East and North African countries.
Each religion preaches that it is the true and correct religion.
But can religion really save our soul after death? The reply is no, in the sense that it is our deeds that are in consonance with God’s 10 commandments that can readily save our soul after life.
How can religion save a man’s soul if his God is money, wealth, fame and power, forgetting in the process that all mortals return to dust from whence they come?
The surest way that can save a man’s soul is to follow the 10 commandments given by God to Moses in Mount Sinai.
