Speak Out: Sexual healing
By Jess Kangleon Faller

AS PUBLISHED in one of the prominent international magazines in circulation, famous institutions like the San Francisco State University, Reproductive and Sexual Medicine Clinic hington Medat the University of Wasical School, the Human Sexuality Program at New York Weill Cornell Medical Center as well as the University of British Columbia and Concordis University in Montreal, Canada on different occasions, studies on human sexuality that involve the entire person not just the sexual acts of the individual have been conducted. They discovered a true scientific breakthrough in the effects of sexual activity on the health of a person.

Quoted verbatim is what doctors and researchers of these aforesaid institutions learned about the healing power of sex:

On HEART DISEASE

Lovemaking is a good aerobic exercise that improves the circulation of blood and boosts the heart. Sexually active people tend to suffer from fewer heart attacks, possibly owing to their better fitness.

On WEIGHT

The act of intercourse burns about 200 calories, the equivalent of running vigorously for 30 minutes. During orgasm, both heart rate and blood pressure typically double, all under the influence of oxytocin. Sex, like other aerobic workouts, can protect against heart disease.

On PAIN

Endorphins released during orgasm can dull the chronic pain of backaches and arthritis as well as migraines.

On DEPRESSION

Sexually active people appear to be less vulnerable to depression and suicide, perhaps because they are more comfortable with their sexuality.

On ANXIETY

Hormones released during arousal can calm down anxiety, ease fear and break down inhibitions.

On IMMUNITY

Frequent intercourse may boost levels of key immune cells that help fight off colds and other infections.

On CANCER

Early studies hint that oxytocin and the hormone DHEA, both released during orgasm, may prevent breast-cancer cells from developing into tumors.

On LONGEVITY

Frequent orgasm has been linked to longer life; this may have something to do with sex’s beneficial effects on the heart and immune system. A study of elderly men found that those who masturbated frequently appeared to experience less depression that those who did not. In addition, frequent sexual activity has been tied to lower risk of breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men.
