The simple lightness of being By Zac Faelnar-Camara The World is my home
There is a certain lightness of being that can be derived from the simple joys of life. We all get caught up in the rattle and buzz of the season to the point of forgetting ourselves but this year, I made a conscious effort to keep things simple.
These post-Yuletide activities require nothing more than a touch of soul or a hint of kindness without a hair of worry about losing a penny.
After the parties and Noche Buena, you want to carry on the flair but no longer desire to host another banquet. Have an intimate dinner by candlelight with your family every evening, occasionally inviting a few friends. That way, every evening after Christmas up until New Year’s Eve will remain special.
You’ve distributed every single book, doll and electronic game the children wished for from Santa. After Christmas Day, when the children have mellowed down, take time to enjoy their gifts with them. If you read them stories by candlelight, their eyes will be aglow in the flickering light and the feeling will be magical.
Scattered around your lovely tree were cards, gift tags, ribbons and ornaments – remnants of beautifully wrapped boxes that were given a lot of thought. Put some thought into your New Year’s Resolution by desiring to be less wasteful.
Display the cards on your console for the rest of the holidays. Re-use the cards, ribbons and ornaments next Christmas for projects like creative gift-wrapping. Re-use the gift tags for message cards, and gather the wrapping paper for recycling.
Let the true spirit of Christmas continue gracing our homes throughout the holiday season until the next year round as we delight in the simplicity and lightness of our being.
