Jan. 2, Monday, regular work day

Malacañang and the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) announced yesterday that Jan. 2, 2006 will be a regular working day, contrary to earlier announcements that it will be a non-working day.

Palace officials said only Dec. 30- 31, 2005 and Jan. 1, 2006 are holidays, which are enough to enable people to enjoy the holidays with their loved ones.

“Jan. 2 will be a working day for our workers,” said Labor Undersecretary Danilo Cruz.

The Palace earlier declared Dec. 24 and Dec. 26, 2005 as non-working days, but Dole Secretary Patricia Sto. Tomas had announced that Jan. 2, 2006 would also be a non-working day.

Sto. Tomas added that employees working on the special non-working days would receive an additional 30 percent of their salary. (Sunnex)
