GTZ partners with USJ-R for ICT training program

The German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the University of San Jose-Recoletos College of Information, Computer and Communication Technology (USJ-R CICCT) last Nov. 15 for the delivery of ICT-related training program.

The agreement aims to enhance the competitiveness and productivity of IT enterprises in the province of Cebu. This is aligned under the Small and Medium Enterprise Development for Sustainable Employment Program (Smedsep) of GTZ.

Representing USJ-R at the signing was Fr. Sixto M. Bitangcol, OAR, vice president for academics, while GTZ was represented
by Martina Vahlhaus, Smedsep program manager. Also present in the event was Ernesto Beltran, Technical Education and Skills Development 7 director.

In this partnership, USJ-R is tasked to deliver the ICT technical training programs identified as critical ICT skills requirements of the local ICT industry in the 2003 Cebu ICT Survey and IT Subsector Analysis: Thin Client/Server Development Program, Open Source Development Program and Medical Transcription Services Program.

In delivering the different ICT technical programs, GTZ, through Smedsep, will provide USJ-R with support in course validation forum/program launch, market strategy development and technical coaching.

The alliance represents USJ-R’s seriousness in rallying behind Cebu City in becoming the next ICT hub and reflects what Real said: “An academe-industry linkage is crucial if the academe is to become a functional and effective source of ICT knowledge workers.”
