Schools compete today

Traffice leading to Osmeña Boulevard will be rerouted starting at noon today for the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan.

Since the participants will hold a parade from the Capitol to the Cebu City Sports Center, the City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) will close one lane of the road.

Public utility jeepneys (PUJs) with route numbers 03B, 03D, 21B, and 22B will make a left turn towards Ramos St. instead of proceeding to the Fuente Rotunda and go back to Osmeña Blvd. towards Colon St. through Sanciangko St.

Those with route numbers 04B, 04D, 04E, 04H, 14D, 17B, and 17D will go strait to Gorordo Ave. instead of Escario St. and proceed to Gen. Maxilom Ave., Ramos St., and Junquera St. Except for route number 14D, all will then proceed to Sanciangko St. their downtown destinations.

PUJs with route numbers 14A, 14B, 14C, and 15A, on the other hand, will proceed to Gov. Roa St., Ma. Cristina, Osmeña Blvd., to Gen. Maxilom Ave., all the time avoiding the Fuente Rotunda.

Route numbers 06B, 06C, 06D, 06E, 06F, 07B, and 07C will either go straight and turn right to V. Rama Ave. instead of B. Rodriguez St., to N. Bacalso Ave., to Osmeña Blvd.

PUJs with route numbers 12L and 06H will follow a circuitous route, avoiding M. Velez St. by proceeding to N. Bacalso Ave. through V. Rama Ave., left turn to Osmeña Blvd., and to Escario St.

On their way back, they will proceed to Gen. Maxilom Ave., to F. Ramos St. and Junquera St. before making a right turn for P. del Rosario St., N. Bacalso Ave., and V. Rama Ave.

Cebu City Police Office Traffic Group chief Julius Cesar Gornez advised motorists to follow the traffic signboards Citom posted strategically to avoid confusion.

He advised the public that similarly, traffic leading to Osmeña Blvd. from the Plaza Independencia end to the Sports Center will also be rerouted tomorrow for the Sinulog sa Barangay, participated in by students from nine Cebu City schools.

Today’s parade will end at the sports center in time for the 2 p.m. competition.

Defending champion Compostela National High School (NHS) will lead the seven participating contingents in the high school category.

Cordova district will also defend its title against four competitors in the elementary category.

Challenging Compostela NHS are the Marigondon NHS (Lapulapu City), Cordova NHS, Camotes NHS, Carcar Central NHS, Mantawi Integrated Dance Company (Mandaue City), and Pundok Sinanggiyaw (Dumanjug town).

In the elementary category, Cordova District will compete with performers from Simala, Sibonga town; Pajo, Lapulapu City; Talisay City Division; and Oslob District. (RHM)
