Speak out: Jojo Acuin's predictions
By John Pala

(The letter is addressed to Bobby Nalzaro)

Your article on the 2006 forecast of Jojo Acuin is entertaining. It scares me a bit, though, since I plan to visit Los Angeles in those months.

Frankly, your summation of the prophecy scares me enough to change schedules at the least--or maybe my destination. But thanks.

Have a wonderful new year 2006!

Work application blues

(Writer’s name withheld upon request)

I applied for various jobs, specifically in a television network and in a government office (the Philippine National Police) in Cebu.

When I went to the TV network, the interviewer told me tatawagan na lang daw nila ako about their feedbacks, etc. But days and weeks passed, no call from them. That meant I didn’t pass the interview.

This was also what happened when I applied with the said government office.

It would have been okay had the issue only been that I failed in their interviews. There was nothing I could do about it. Ang kaso, nagmukha akong tanga.

I mean, naghintay lang pala ako sa wala. Kahit na hindi ako nakapasa, they should have, at least, called me up para doon pa lang, I would immediately look for another job. They should have been honest to me.

Some interviewers (in other companies) though would tell me right away: “If you don’t receive a call from us, that means you have to look for another job.”

Pero yung dalawang offices, they didn’t.

It was in this government job that I got so disappointed. This was because my cousin had an old friend who worked there as a regular employee. She was the one who suggested that I should apply there.

Pero yung bad news nalaman namin ni Nay sa ibang tao (who’s a semi-regular employee in that office) at hindi doon sa friend.

Nag-usap sina Nay at yung friend and the latter explained why I wasn’t accepted. But before that, the semi-regular employee told Nay na hindi raw siya kayang diretsahin nung regular employee. That’s why she didn’t inform Nay right away.

I am writing this because I don’t want other job applicants out there to experience the same incident. This is the worst news I received this year.

As for the interviewers, please don’t treat your applicants like kids or dogs--–na puwede ninyong utuin o gaguhin. Don’t make them wait or expect. You should mention a specific time or day kung hanggang kailan nila hihintayin ang tawag ninyo.

I`m not expecting those people to reconsider me or to hire me. I just hope that by writing this, mahinto na yung kalokohang ginawa nila. Kung hindi man, sana mabawasan na.
