Gloria Arroyo pledges P12M for filmmakers
Actor Marvin Agustin and singer-actress Zsa Zsa Padilla brought home the top awards in the 31st Metro Manila Film Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines last Saturday.
Surprising the crowd was President Arroyo who dropped by to pledge P1 million for each producer of the 12 finalist films for this year.
Arroyo promised to support the country’s film industry.
Agustin won as best actor for “Kutob” of Octo Arts Films, while Padilla won as best actress for Regal Films’ “Ako Legal Wife.”
The best supporting actor and the best supporting actress awards went to Jay Manalo and Cherry Pie Picache, both for “Ako Legal Wife.”
The movie “Blue Moon” was chosen as best picture, followed by “Exodus (2nd best picture) and “Kutob,” (3rd best picture).
Jose Javier Reyes won the best director award for “Kutob,” while the movie “Exodus” was chosen for the best cinematography award.

* Best Screenplay - “Blue Moon” * Best Festival Editor - Vito Cajili (Kutob) * Most Gender Sensitive Film - “Blue Moon” * Best Child Performer - Paul Salas (Shake, Rattle and Roll) * Best Musical Score - Jaime Fabrigas (Kutob), * Best Sound Recording - Ditiy Agila (Exodus) * Best Festival Original Theme Song - Kasalanan Nga Ba? (Kutob) * Male Star of the Night - Richard Gutierrez (Mulawin) * Female Star of the Night - Iya Velania (Exodus).
The top grosser for theaters are Gaisano Cinema (Mindanao), SM Cebu (Visayas), SM Dasmarinas (Luzon) and SM North Edsa (Metro Manila).
From texters, the People’s Choice Award went to “Blue Moon.”
The Posthumous Award was given to Atty. Manny de Leon of the defunct LVN Productions and the Lifetime Achievement Award to Henry Sy Sr. of SM. (RRM)
