Jetro advises exporters to label products properly
The Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro) is encouraging exporters to label their products properly to avoid problems with the government of the receiving country.
“Labeling provides the consumers and users information on the product. In order for it to do so, it has to enable the users to correctly understand the product,” according to a statement.
Labeling should provide the following information: name of the product and brand, quality, method of handling, quantity and terms of transactions.
Information
Information, such as materials, ingredients, performance, efficacy, structure, form, method of production and processing, type, grade, date of production and processing, best consumption date, use of food additives and names, quality marks and inspection marks should be included in the quality label.
With regard to method of handling, the label should indicate the application, method of use, handling, storage and warnings in use.
Instructions
It should also include handling and storage instructions while its quantity information should include weight of contents and weights of different materials.
Label information relating to safety is important in protecting the life and health of the consumer; therefore, it has to be regulated more strictly than other label information under the law, Jetro said. (JBN)
