Sun.Star journalist to cover big event

Homer Sayson, one of Cebu’s most followed sports columnists, will watch the Manny Pacquiao versus Erik Morales rematch as a credentialed journalist on Jan. 21 (Jan. 22 in RP) at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, USA.

Sayson was at ringside for the Pacquiao-Morales I at the MGM Grand last March 19, 2005 and he was also credentialed for the September 2002 Dela Hoya-Vargas fight, the June 2002 Lewis-Tyson blockbuster, among others.

According to SFE Public Relations, a total of 280 credential requests were processed for the Pacquiao-Morales rematch. Sayson’s previous world-title fight coverages gave him an easy to ticket to this redux dubbed as “The Battle.”

NBA

“We are pleased to inform you that Homer Sayson has been credentialed for the Manny Pacquiao versus Erik Morales card,” said an SFE Public Relations e-mail to the Sun.Star Cebu sports desk yesterday.

Sayson hosts a wildly popular thrice-a-week NBA segment on dyAB’s Arangkada with Leo Lastimosa. He also has live on-air segments on Y101 FM every Friday and on dyTR in Tagbilaran, Bohol three times a week with Ted Ayeng.

After the Pacquiao fight, Sayson will travel to Los Angeles where he also has credentials for the Jan. 21 Lakers versus Raptors game at the Staples Center. Sayson is the only Cebuano ever credentialed to cover the NBA Finals, and he has done so for the last five years.

Sayson’s upcoming coverage is sponsored in part by lawyer Adelino Sitoy through the University of Cebu College of Law, Park and Go Bakeshop, Isuzu Cebu at Ayala Center, Cebu Isuzu Parts Supply Inc., San Miguel Corp. and Y101. (ML)
