Young squad cops bowl team title

The young guns of Prima Pasta VI claimed the Team Event title of the 7th Metro Gaisano-SMC Sinulog Open at the Gaisano Bowlingplex.

Erstwhile All Events leader Jomar Jumapao, brothers Clark and Clarence Tiu and All Events No.2-ranked player Junjun Gothong bowled consistent scores to push their team to the championship with 3,404 pinfalls.

The four young bowlers were part of the first batch of teams that competed last week. After the second batch of teams – mostly out-of-town entries from Manila and Bacolod – took the lanes yesterday, the leaderboard remained unchanged.

Albert Surplus II’s Bel Suelto Jr., Leo Tecson, Ed San Jose and Alfred dela Cerna claimed the runner-up spot, while Phone & Gadgets’ William Lao, Ernest Tan, Warren Tecson and Johnny Dai secured the third spot with 3,141 pinfalls.

The champions received P18,000 and a trophy, the runners-up won P13,000 and silvers medals, and the third placers got P8,000 and bronze medals.

Meanwhile, lady bowler Analily Lao, a former Philippine National Games gold medalist, wrested the lead in the All Events from Jumapao with an overall tally of 2,592 pinfalls.

Gothong (2,584), moved from fifth to the second spot, Tan (2,568) is at third, Art Areias (2,543) is fourth, followed by Clark Tiu (2,521), Jumapao (2,479) and Clarence Tiu (2,436). (JCT)
