Manila bowlers top Doubles Event

After bagging the team championship, the host players this time got outplayed in the Doubles Event in the 7th Metro Gaisano-SMC Sinulog Open at the Gaisano Bowlingplex.

Benshir Layoso and Sammy Say Sy of Manila Tenpin Bowling Association raised the standard earlier set by Cebu’s Cifya/Prima to secure the P8,000 championship purse and gold medals.

Third place

Layoso and Sy rolled a 1,786 to beat Cifya/Prima by 46 pins.

Cifya/Prima, made up of Johnson Tan and Earl Uy, scored 1,740 pinfalls and settled for the P6,000 runner-up. They also received silver medals.

Another Manila team won third place. Prima Pasta II’s Bonnie Solis and Rollie Cruz scored 1,732 pinfalls, falling just nine pins short of dislodging the Cebu squad from the runner-up spot.

Solis and Cruz won P4,000 and bronze medals.

Cebu teams earlier swept the top three spots in the Team Event, led by the youthful Prima Pasta VI, of Jomar Jumapao, brothers Clark and Clarence Tiu and Junjun Gothong. The team scored 3,404 pinfalls to win the title.

Albert Surplus II’s Bel Suelto Jr., Leo Tecson, Ed San Jose and Alfred dela Cerna secured second place with 3,186 pinfalls, while Phone & Gadgets’ William Lao, Ernest Tan, Warren Tecson and Johnny Dai were third with 3,141 pinfalls. (JCT)
