Orange, White win in KKABA hoops

Teams Orange (’94-’95) and White (’96-’97) continued their winning ways by overpowering separate foes in the 1st KKABA basketball tournament last Jan. 12 at PCGS Ong Lian Siong gymnasium.

Orange handed Gray (’91-’93) its second straight loss with a 70-65 escape, while White trounced the struggling Blue team (2000-up), 80-63.

It was a seesaw battle between Orange and Gray in the first quarter of the match, as both teams executed contrasting game plans. Orange used its slow but powerful post-up game, while Gray employed its methodical running game.

In the second quarter, Rommel Lisondra’s brilliant shot making ignited a run for a 33-28 halftime lead before Orange mounted a huge comeback with a 10-0 blast behind Oliver Go’s inside plays after the break.

Gray answered back with 3-point shots to no avail. Go finished the game with his first double-double performance of the season with 24 points, 14 rebounds, three steals and three blocks while Glenn Noel added 14 points, three rebounds and five assists. Moises Mayuela led Gray with 18 points, six steals and two assists in a losing cause.

In the second game, the streaking White caught fire in early and pounced the beleaguered Blue team, who made a measly six points in the first quarter for an 11-point bulge at the bend, 35-24. Jaime Alviola’s had his A game, nailing eight of his 17 points in the quarter.

Offensive assault

Blue fought its heart out throughout the remaining quarters of the game but White wouldn’t budge and intensified its offensive assault with the dynamic duo of Keith Noel and Chuck Montecillo leading the way. Blue’s awful 25 of 73 field goal shooting also contributed to its third straight loss.
