Toral: Affordable payment solutions

Shopping. Last month, I got the chance to catch up with Cannie May, founder of YOSSN.com or Your One-Stop Shopping Network. This site started as an Internet portal where small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can post their products for free.

Last year, Cannie integrated an online payment service where all of its site members can also accept payments online. YOSSN.com charges a 4.5 percent service fee and pays the merchant within four to five days after product delivery.

This is ideal for those who are just starting up their e-commerce website and want to test their market potential and capability to serve orders. Once the demand gets higher, SMEs can already opt to put up their own site and add or use other payment solutions available in the market today, such as those offered by YesPayments.com and PayFree.com.ph.

Definitely, there are more reasons for SMEs to explore in putting up their businesses online than ever before.

Love for Music–Advantage. I got the chance to attend the AutoDesk and Behringer memorandum of understanding signing ceremony. With this agreement, Behringer becomes part of the customer board of directors of AutoDesk and provides inputs with regard to various AutoDesk products.

Behringer is well known for the development of audio-related products, such as mixers, electric guitars, amplifiers, digital piano, headset, among others. It is interesting to know that the company operates parts of its global research and development center in the Philippines, with 70 employees to date. Its founder and chief executive officer Uli Behringer is actually based in the Philippines and finds great affinity with the musically talented Filipinos.

With new intelligent manufacturing design and development tools such as those offered by AutoDesk, companies like Behringer are now able to launch more than a hundred products in a year as product concepts can already be marketed prior to production. This helps overcome various issues on design and production conflicts.

Filipinos can be very proud in knowing that Behringer products in the market today are actually touched and influenced by Filipinos, in terms of research and product design.

BEADS ONLINE. Last week, I mentioned about my bead jewelry hobby and putting up a website for it. It is now online at BeadClubPhilippines.com. The tough part now, I realized, is finding the products to be posted online. Most bead hobbyists tend to create one of kind product. By the time they receive repeat orders, they end up scrambling to look for raw materials where the supplies are not guaranteed. So for bead jewelry hobbyists out there, make sure to be able to produce three to five pieces of your products before selling it online to avoid the mad rush for supplies.

Electronic payment guidelines for government. It might be of interest for you to know that the Bureau of Treasury is currently drafting guidelines for government agencies to follow should they like to accept payments online. This is also applicable to state colleges and universities, local government units, government-owned and -controlled corporations and the like.
