Mayor pledges aid for injured dancer

Bantayan Mayor Geralyn Escario assured they will give full support to the dancer who lost his teeth while performing at the grand stand during the Sinulog grand parade.

“One thing is for sure. Di gyud namo siya pasagdan,” she said.

Escario admitted they did not have any plan of joining the Sinulog, but Vice Mayor Michael Rama and Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia asked them to join.

The governor had admitted she was the one who encouraged Bantayan to participate.

They agreed to join despite the short notice, in the spirit of cooperation. Their participation also served as their offer to Sto. Niño.

The group was asked to join less than a week before the parade.

The dancers of Bantayan’s contingent were members of the Palawod Dance Co.

Bleeding

Rain poured when it was their time to perform, and John Eric Boltron slipped and was hit by the paddle of his fellow dancer.
With his mouth bleeding, he continued to dance until they finished their presentation.

Their final performance was in front of the University San Carlos along P. del Rosario St., where Boltron was still able to dance.

The boy’s father died three years ago, so his mother is raising him alone by making dried fish, a well-known product of Bantayan.

Boltron underwent operation last Tuesday but remains confined in the hospital.

Councilor Marlon Pacaña, who attended to Boltron, clarified that the boy lost two teeth during the accident.

Surgery

He lost the first one upon impact, while doctors had to remove the other through surgery because it was pushed into his gums.

However, two of his upper front teeth will also be removed next month.

Sinulog dancers have P10,000 insurance. The Sinulog Foundation also gave P5,000 in financial assistance.

Escario said the municipality will also give financial assistance, as well as the Provincial Government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).

PSWDO Chief Marivic Garces said she has sent a team to assess the case of the boy. (MBG)
