National Prisaa in Dagupan, Pangasinan

It’s all systems go for the 2006 National Private Schools Athletic Association meet on Feb. 5-11 in Dagupan City and Pangasinan.

The Prisaa Region 1, headed by Gonzalo T. Duque, the Prisaa national president and vice chairman of the national board of trustees, released yesterday the schedules of the competitions as well as the available billeting centers.

Some 4,000 athletes, coaches and school officials will take part in the weeklong event, which will feature games in athletics, badminton, chess, baseball, basketball, softball, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.

University of Cebu athletics director Bernard Ricablanca told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that the 200-person Prisaa-7 delegation will leave for Manila on Feb.3 and proceed to Pangasinan, where it will be billeted.

Majority of the Prisaa-7 athletes come from Cebu City, which topped the Prisaa 7 regional meet with a total harvest of 80 golds, 46 silvers and 23 bronze medals.

Last year in Zamboanga City, Region 6/Western Visayas claimed the overall championship title with a tally of 77 golds, 57 silvers and 45 bronzes. Prisaa-7 finished fourth overall with 20-47-36.

The upcoming Prisaa national meet, which has the theme “Friendship and Solidarity Towards National Transformation” will be the biggest sporting event ever in Pangasinan since its hosting of the Palarong Pambansa in 1995.

Duque, president of the Dagupan-based Lyceum-Northwestern University, led the launching of the meet last Dec. 23.

The meet will open on Feb. 6 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen, designated by organizers as one of several venues, along with the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome and other sites. (JSV)
