Techni-Ice 2000 wins

Techni-Ice 2001 bounced back from a heartbreaking loss to Class ’94 by preying on Juvis Marketing 2003, 72-68, in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 8th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup Tuesday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu.

Earlier, Hannah’s Cakes and Decors 2004 got off to an impressive start by routing JV Bakeshop 2002, 71-50.

It was a tight match but Class 2001 personified grace under pressure in the closing minutes of the game to chalk up its first win of the season. Trailing, 32-35, at halftime, Class 2001 rallied in the third quarter using a 25-16 run to gain headway, 57-51, entering the payoff period.

Class 2001 protected its slim lead towards the end behind Eric Cabana, who poured in eight of his 12 points in the final stretch.

Paul Martin Gabatan topscored for Class 2004 with 22 points, while Marlon Lao chipped in 11 markers. Joey Catipay fired a game-high 25 points and Jimpaul Yankee added 14 points in a losing cause.

In the other game, Christian Espada posted 17 points and Danel Hayag pitched in 13 markers for Class 2004, which detonated a devastating 24-6 bomb in the final quarter to turn a close match into a 21-point cakewalk.
