USC repeats over UV
The University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors brought the University of the Visayas Baby Lancers on its knees once more following a 62-53 conquest Monday to finish the elimination unscathed in the BAP-Visayas/MLSDF 3rd ML Kwarta Padala Cup at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Gym in Punta Princesa.
The Baby Warriors zoomed to victory in the fourth quarter, outscoring the taller and heftier Baby Lancers, 21-8, for their third straight victory to enter the semifinal round on top of Group A with a 3-0 win-loss record.
Catch up
Rafael John Flanco, Giovannie Padillo and Kevin Jake Arriesgado towed USC to victory as they combined for 17 points to overcome a 41-45 deficit at the end of the third quarter.
USC played catch-up in first three quarters as it allowed UV to erect a 36-32 lead at the half when John Cañada spread 13 of his game-high 22 points in the first half with the help of Jan Michael Camay, who also scored 10 of his 14 points in the first 10 minutes of the game.
However, UV’s offense started to falter when the Baby Warriors started to heat up.
Since May of last year, USC has been 6-1 in its head-to-head match-up with the Baby Lancers.
Flanco and Arriesgado scored 16 points each and Robert Gines Codilla added 10 for USC, while Cañada and Camay were the only Baby Lancers to score in double digit.
Meanwhile, University of Southern Philippines Baby Panthers started the game hot and never looked back after erecting a 21-10 lead in the first quarter for an 82-73 win over the Hoop It Up to take the leadership in Group B with a 2-0 record.
Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology Baby Skyblazers, on the other hand, were merciless against the Consolacion National High School Black Sharma following a 78-35 win.
However, the victory did not matter as the Baby Skyblazers bid bye to the competition with a 1-2 win-loss card.
