Vigilante survivor shot anew

A 26-year-old car watcher who survived a vigilante-style attack in March last year was again shot by two men on a motorcycle late Wednesday night.

Angelito Lirasan died at 1:15 a.m. yesterday after undergoing operation for multiple gunshot wounds at the Cebu Doctors’ Hospital.

The attack occurred at 11 p.m. Wednesday at corner Gov. M. Roa and Kamu-ning Sts. in Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City.

Based on the Homicide Section’s list of victims of vigilante-style attacks, last Wednesday’s incident is considered the 113th case since late December 2004.

It was the second attack on Lirasan after two hooded men also attempted to kill him at 12:08 a.m. last March 7 while he was near his house on M. Velez St., Capitol Site.

Taking a snack

Last Wednesday night, Lirasan had just finished taking a snack and was about to pay when a motorcycle stopped near him.

A man armed with a pistol got off the motorcycle and shot Lirasan several times.

The perpetrators, who fled toward Escario St., were described as wearing helmets and covering their faces with pieces of cloths.

Empty shells

Policemen from the Fuente Osmeña Police Station found eight empty shells and one deformed .45 slug.

Meanwhile, a conductor of a public utility jeepney was gunned down by four men at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday along Osmeña Blvd. corner Colon St., Cebu City.

Luis Abad Jr., 45, did not make it alive at the Cebu City Medical Center. He was shot in the face.

Esmeralda Gabucayan, driver of a Mandaue-Colon bound (21B) jeepney where Abad worked, said they stopped in the area to wait for passengers when four men approached him.

One of the four men pulled out a handgun and shot Abad at close range.

It was not known why the perpetrators killed Abad. (JST)
