Crime suspect links politician

A former henchman of a politician alleged that his boss knew the perpetrators of a major crime in Cebu last year.

He also said in a video compact disc (VCD) sent to Sun.Star Cebu and other media outfits yesterday that they did surveillance work and plotted the assassination of the politician’s enemies.

The man presented text messages allegedly between him and his former boss regarding the crime and other illegal operations.

He also said he has receipts to prove that he is the politician’s henchman.

Sun.Star Cebu is withholding the identity of the man, as well as the politician, pending verification of the video and the allegations he made.

The VCD, which came with a letter, however, does not offer direct evidence of participation of the politicians in the crimes mentioned by the man, who has been linked to the crime.

The video footage shows what appears to be a flag of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 will take custody today of the VCD containing the recorded statement of the man.

NBI 7 Director Medardo de Lemos, in an interview last night, said they will evaluate the content of the disc, but added that the man should surface to execute a formal statement if he is indeed serious in his claim.

Value

The disc and its content, without authentication, have no evidentiary value, de Lemos said.

However, the bureau’s investigators may find leads.

De Lemos also said they might turn over the VCD to the Office of the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor for “whatever action they might want to take.”

The man said in the video that he will soon come out with another VCD detailing the crimes that his former boss had committed.

He also said he fears for his life and that of his family. (AIV/KNR)
