With P.6M bounty, cops skeptical about hunt
Even if Mayor Tomas Osmeña has already set aside P600,000 as reward money for the capture of 10 wanted fraternity members, the police is still groping for their whereabouts.
Fraternity colleagues are allegedly shielding them from authorities, which is why the police is asking the public to help.
Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Melvin Gayotin said their fraternity “brothers” are helping the culprits hide despite knowledge of their criminal offenses.
“They are also protecting their co-fraternity members, ilang pangitaang paagi nga dili madakpan,” he told City Hall reporters yesterday.
He also admitted that CCPO does not have pictures of the suspects, which make it more difficult for the police to track them down.
For that reason, City Councilor Augustus Pe Jr. promised that those who harbor criminals will be prosecuted by the City.
Pe said that of the 10, the City only has pictures of three suspects.
The suspects were identified as Alpha Kappa Rho (Akrho) members Aristotle Aves, Santos “Sonny” dela Cruz, Dino Arriesgado, Glenn Marson, John Ian Baluna, RJ Moreno and Tyke Philip Lomibao.
Wanted members of rival fraternity Tau Gamma Phi were identified as Glenn Codiñera, Ericson Pastorfide and Warren Entera.
Thirty-three members of Akrho, Tau, Crips and Bloods fraternities also have pending cases in court.
Pe said determining the reward money for the capture of a suspect depends on the number and gravity of his criminal offenses.
He will meet with Gayotin and Supt. Paul Labra II, head of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau, to discuss this.
He revealed a few of the suspects are already hiding outside Cebu. (RHM)
