LC team tops eliminations of customs brokers caging
LC customs Brokerage ended its elimination-round campaign with its fifth victory after drubbing the Cebu cagers, 93-78, yesterday in the 10th Customs Employees and Brokers Union Collectors Cup basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Gym in Punta Princesa.
The victory propelled the Edgar Alinsoot-owned LC atop the standings in the 35-above division going into the next round with 5-2 win-loss record.
LC Customs and Cebu slugged it out in the first half with both teams finishing the first quarter tied at 20-all. The seesaw battle continued in the ensuing phase with LC just managing to erect a slim 43-42 edge at halftime.
But the second half saw LC’s triumvirate of court general Kenneth Maningo, Kern Sesante and Arnie Bulabon holding sway as LC pulled away from Cebu with a double-digit lead which they sustained until the final canto.
Sesante led LC with 18 markers, while Maningo and Bulabon chipped in 13 points apiece. Two other LC players also had double-digit scores with Jovert Olves scattering 12 points and Joe Sardane adding 10 of his own.
Cebu, which fell to 3-4, were led by Ian Go, who had 18 points, while four of his teammates also logged in double digit scores. Cebu, though, still has a chance of advancing into the crossover round.
LC (93) – Sesante 18, Maningo 13, Bulabon 13, Olves 12, Sardane 10, Urbina 9, Palabon 6, Abergos 6, Piañar 4, Espina 2.
