Students, professionals urged to participate in Cebu Youthfest

ALL students from different colleges and universities as well as young professionals from companies all over the country are urged to join  the first-ever Cebu Youthfest 2006 February 2-3 at the SM City Cebu Trade Hall.

The event is aimed at changing the way young people see tourism as an industry. With the theme: “Empowering Speech Independence and Shaping a Youth Tourism Advocacy”, it merges tourism fora with extemporaneous and essay writing contests that revolve around the context of tourism as everybody’s business so that public speaking takes a vital role in tourism awareness campaigns and promotions.

Event Chairman Rudynah Entera, said that it has been her long overdue dream to put up a youth-oriented event since she was in the House of Representatives of the University of San Jose Recoletos Supreme Student Council (USJR-SSC).

The event will highlight the “I love Cebu” exhibit displaying photos of Cebu destinations, faces and products that will be launched on Feb. 2 at 10 a.m., followed by the opening ceremonies at 10:30 a.m. After lunch, the delegates will be given inputs about “Tourism Evolution” by a Department of Tourism representative. The second and third lectures on “Public Speaking” and “Make It Happen: Finding the Youth’s Potentials and Taking Off”, will both be delivered by E.J. Mcknight, the president of Standing Ovations who has been a professional lecturer, motivation speaker and magician from Florida, USA.

Extemporaneous Speaking and Essay Writing contests are set after the Public Speaking lecture by Mcknight.

On Feb. 3, the event will highlight a back-to-back forum with Patrick Gregorio, founding chairman of the Cebu Visitors and Convention Bureau (CVCB), and Eddie Nuque, managing partner of Incentivation Asia Consulting, Inc. and vice chairman of LakbayNet. Gregorio will speak on “Brand Destination Marketing” and “Shaping a Tourism Advocacy among the Youth” while Nuque will share inputs about the “Culture of Tourism” and “Growing Impact of Tourism in Education, Business and Society”.

Cebu Youthfest 2006 is presented by the DOT and Episodes Pro in cooperation with the Commission on Higher Education (Ched), SM City Cebu, Rotary Club of Cebu Business District (RCCBD) and Pepsi. Registration fees are at P500 for students and P800 for young professionals, inclusive of meals, delegate’s kit, certificates and other freebies. To register, one may call 2562864 or 09262 481496 and look for Merell, Butch or Marcie or email cebuyouthfest@gmail.com
