Luigi to lose budget committee chairmanship
Cebu Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez Jr. admitted that Provincial Board Member Luigi Quisumbing will no longer chair the committee on budget and appropriations and will be assigned to handle other committees.
Sanchez disclosed that Quisumbing said he will abide by whatever committee the presiding officer will assign to him.
Quisumbing will retain his chairmanship over the committee on dangerous drugs, and will likely have the committee on information and technology, barring changes.
“I have talked to Luigi, and he told me it is up to me. I like his gesture,” said the vice governor, who was given the prerogative to assign chairpersons of committees when the Board decided to have a reorganization last Jan. 23.
Changes
Sanchez begged off from disclosing further details on who will head the committee on budget, so as not to preempt the final steps in the PB reorganization on Monday.
“There might be some changes unya mahug unya kong bakakun (I might come out as a liar),” he explained.
But he revealed that he offered the committee to some people that he had in mind, only that they were not interested.
This is why he decided that the budget committee, considering its heavy workload, should be given to someone interested to handle it.
Harmony
He will just make sure that there is “check and balance” among the members.
Other committees that will be affected will be the committee on environment, which Victor Maambong heads, and the committee on planning and development headed by Jose Ma. Gastardo.
Sanchez wants the committee on planning and the committee on infrastructure to be headed by one person, seeing their work as interrelated.
The vice governor said he still has to iron out more things about the reorganization to make sure that there will be harmony within each committee. (JPM)

Dirt road to open eco-tourism park in 2 mountain brys.
Seeing vast potentials for tourism in the mountain barangays, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña wants dirt roads opened in Barangay Taptap this year to make way for the construction of an eco-tourism park in the area.
Osmeña wants to make Barangays Taptap and Pamutan easily accessible to tourists and local residents and make landmark sites there, which will have a natural swimming pool, a hanging bridge, picnic grounds and a park.
Road improvements in Taptap, home to cascading waterfalls and which has a magnificent view of the mountains, would be developed in several stages, the mayor said.
Picnic area
He also wants to make improvements around the waterfalls, river and flat rock formation in Pamutan, which can be a picnic area later on.
For the opening of the dirt roads in Taptap alone, the mayor expects the City to spend some P1 million to P2 million, which he wants completed within the year.
“I want to develop a site where people can go to…In Taptap, there’s a three-level waterfalls that never runs out of water. It can be made accessible to the people at no major cost,” he told a news conference yesterday.
Level areas
He added he would instruct that a bulldozer be brought to the area as soon as possible so the areas leading to the falls can be leveled.
Osmeña announced his plans after taking a helicopter ride to inspect the mountain barangays and the South Reclamation Project yesterday morning.
The waterfalls in Taptap and the hidden valley in Pamutan are just among the breathtaking sites he saw, which he said would make a good area “for people to enjoy peace and a quiet environment in a natural setting.”
Once the area surrounding the waterfalls is accessible, the mayor said it would be easy for city officials to go up there and assess what can be done.(LCR)
