Jewelers v. PacMan in finals

The M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu and PacMan-General Santos will play each other in the finals of the 1st Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association Mayor Lawrence Cruz Cup.

This after they maintained their unscathed records by beating separate opponents last Thursday at the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology Gym.

PacMan eliminated Montaña Pawnshop of Davao, 83-73, while the Jewelers smashed the Cagayan de Oro squad, 124-102.
The General Santos City-based PacMan team, owned by boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao, used a 39-point third-period burst to offset a 31-38 deficit at the halftime.

Coach Ramon Pido turned to the high-flying Apol Coronado, Louie Medalla and Jonjon Gonzaga in the pivotal run and kept the Jewels at bay to win the game.

In the first game, M. Lhuillier gave Cagayan de Oro City squad its fourth straight defeat with Mark Ababon topping the Jewelers with 24 points and Jayford Rodriguez providing 18 to give M. Lhuillier its third win.

M. Lhuillier (124) – Ababon 24, Rodriguez 18, Ramirez 16, Manigo 14, Ocanada 10, Aying 7, Enriquez 6, Tangarorang 6, Mepana 6, Garcia 6, Caputolan 5, Piodo 4, Llanto 2. Cagayan de Oro (102) – Nunez 28, M. Sanchez 18, Getubig 14, Bahuyo 12, Apepe 10, Gagno 9, R. Sanchez 7, Tilap 4, Bularon 0, Fernandez 0.

Quarters: 39-30; 66-52; 91-75; 124-102. (RCM)
