Doņa Modesta painting tilt winners bared

THE 16th Dona Modesta Singson Gaisano Foundation Painting Competition has announced the winners of its painting tilt held last Jan. 30 at Carcar, Cebu. The subject of the competition for professional category was the Kiosk at the rotunda in Carcar. Historically the Rotunda in Carcar was made by the Abellanas. The sculpture was based on the drawings of Martino Abellana, while his brother Ramon and Manuel helped their father Teofilo in making the sculptures.

The subject for the student category was the faįade of the Saint Catherine Church of Carcar.

Winners in the professional category were Nomar Miano, first prize, Jorge Lao, second prize, Marvin Chito Natural, third prize. They received P30,000, P20,000, P15,000 respectively.

Aside from the top winners, 15 finalists were also recognized: Orley Ypon, Pronnie dela Cerna, Ronilo Abaya, Bong Francisco, Cirilo Alperez, Virgilio Ybanez, Roberto Raul Agas, Jesse Rona, Luther Galicano, Christopher Java Jr., Ariel Caratao, Mark Dave Cabuguas, Giovani Hermosa, Lando Masallo, Antonio Vega, who received P1,000 each.

Student category winners were: Randy Nocos, UPVCC, first prize, Darby Vincent Alcoseba, CIT, second prize, Gil Balbuena, USC-TC, third prize. They got P20,000, P10,000 and P5,000 respectively.

Finalists were Renulo Torino Pautan, USJ-R, Jay Rommel Labra, USC-TC, Jerome Castillo, Cebu Academy of Art, Joel ray Pellerin, UPVCC, Phoebe Gayle Cruz, USC-TC, Warren Rodriguez, CIT, Arvin Magbutay, USC-TC, Ronald Randy Bate, UPVCC, James Kagahastian, USC-TC, Walter Vestil, CIT, Jayson Mata, CIT, Doodz Iligan, Jose Victor Patalinghug, CIT, Rochelle Gliz Getong, USC-TC, Kenichi Wani, UPVCC, who got P1,000 each.

The board of judges was composed of Jose “Kimsoy” Yap, Fred Galan and Jun Impas.

Present during the awarding were Mayor Patrick Barcenas, Vice Mayor Roger Montesclaros, municipal councilors, Natividad Abellana, wife of the late Martino Abellana, and the organizer Gabby Abellana.
