Seares: Lito will run By Pachico A. Seares News Sense
FIRST, Lito said, “What for?”
That was when I asked him if it is true he will run for governor or congressman.
Lito is former governor Lito Osmeña who sauntered into the coffee shop, tall and tan and looking respectable with close-cropped all-white hair.
Then after being seated, he repeated, “What the heck for?” Heck of course was something else and when the veteran politico said the word, contempt dripped.
There has been this talk he will wade into active politics again.
He is registered in Lapu-Lapu, so he might run for governor.
But Lito said he will re-register in Kalunasan where his new house stands.
And Kalunasan is in Cebu City South where incumbent Rep. Tony Cuenco holds court with one challenger, Jonathan Guardo, waiting at the door, impatient to barge in with fists swinging. Serge.
Speculations also abound about Sen. Serge Osmeña, whose term expires next year. Won’t Lito run, if only to spoil the chances of Serge whom he reportedly is at odds with?
Skirting that, Lito said he might run if the election is for a parliamentary system and it qualifies him for the seat of premier.
And he won’t say anything bad about Tony. Lito said he will praise the congressman to high heavens,
As Lito stood to leave, I pressed, So, will he run?
“...away,” Lito said.
A naughty twinkle in his eyes though was unclear. Did it say what the heck for? Or, why the heck not?
