Trade congress eyes youth role
CAGAYAN de Oro - Youth leaders from various areas in Mindanao aired anew the need for more young people to become actively involved in improving the business environment in the conflict-plagued islands.
The appeal was issued after more than 480 delegates from all over Min-danao joined an event in the three-day 2nd Mindanao Business and Management Youth Congress (MBMYC) held at Xavier Estates and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City.
The activity opened last Friday and ended yesterday afternoon.
In an interview, MBMYC chairman Paul Xavier Espinosa said the congress was geared towards motivating the youth to play a role in improving the business environment of Mindanao.
Future
He said their group believes in the capacity of young people here in Mindanao to become future business leaders and possibly help out not just the island but the whole country as well.
He said this is why their congress with the theme “Boosting Mindanao Competitiveness By Enhancing Youth’s Competencies” sought to equip young people with the knowledge and abilities to becoming business leaders someday.
Nourish
“We will be having seminars regarding business management and entrepreneurship which will nourish our skills and competence in the world of business,” Espinosa said.
According to Espinosa, they had the same congress last year which had over 600 delegates and they said they wanted the event to deliver a good impact on the youth leaders.
Espinosa also said, 200 among the participants are from Xavier University and the rest are coming from the different schools of Mindanao.
Distant
“So far, I just don't know which is more distant, Zamboanga or General Santos, but I think they are those who came from the very far places,” Espinosa said in an interview. (Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro/Sunnex)
