Travel expo to exceed 2005 sales

Organizers of the Vis-Min Travel and Lifestyle Show, 2nd International Visayas-Mindanao Travel, Tours, Leisure and Lifestyle Expo 2006 hope to exceed the P16.4M on-site sales it made last year.

Organized by Cebu Travel and Tours Association (CTTA), Cebu Association of Tour Operators and Global-Link Business Communications Philippines Inc., the three-day trade event is the biggest gathering of tour agents, tour operators, hotels, resorts, airlines, theme parks and tourism organizations in Southern Philippines.

It will run from Feb. 17 to 19 at the SM City Cebu Trade Hall.

Success

“Last year’s travel show attracted more than 10,000 visitors and generated on-site sales of more than P16 million. It was a great success for our exhibitors.

I’m excited that this year’s show is heading towards the same direction. To date, the show is fully booked with over 120 exhibitors joining us. Show visitors can expect to meet various suppliers from the best destinations around the country and in other Asian countries,” said Marget Fernan-Villarica, event chairperson and CTTA vice-chairperson.

Among the tourism offices and organizations which will be participating in the three-day trade fair are Agusan del Norte and the Caraga Region, Antique Province, Ilocos and Panga-sinan Region, Bicol Region, Cebu and the Central Visa-yas Region, Negros Occidental, Palawan, Oriental Neg-ros, Southern Leyte and Subic Bay.

Partnership

The Hong Kong Tourism Board, Malaysia Tourism, Guam Visitors Bureau, Singapore Tourism and the Tourism Authority of Thailand will also showcase their respective destinations.

“We attribute last year’s success to the close partnership with both local and national governments. We’re proud that this year the Department of Tourism, the provincial and city governments of Cebu are once again giving their full support,” Villarica said.

She also recognized the significance of the partnership with the private sector.

She acknowledged the active participation of some of travel and tourism industry’s biggest brand names and service providers.

Partners

Among these are Cebu Pacific, Cebu Grand Hotel, Enchanted Kingdom, Fox-Chit Business Solutions, Islands Souvenirs, Marco Polo Plaza Cebu, Philippine Airlines, Qatar Airways, SM City Cebu, Star Cruises, Superferry and Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

“The show exhibitors will treat visitors to premium vacation and adventure destinations with special deals and packages, including 50 percent discounts on trips, that can only be availed of only during the expo. Free plane tickets and free hotel/resort accommodations will also be drawn each day for lucky visitors to the show,” she said.

This year’s travel and lifestyle show will also highlight a free US Embassy presentation about US Business Visa Requirements and how to do business in the US.

Engaging

This makes the event more engaging to people, especially entrepreneurs and companies interested in business expansion in the US.

“Truly, this year’s travel expo is filled with innovative strategies in marketing domestic and international travel products.

Business relations between buyers and sellers will be more enhanced.

There’s no doubt we’ll achieve higher sales this year,” said Villarica. (PR)
