Burglars hit uptown mall

Concessionaires of Raintree Mall along Gen. Maxilom Ave., Cebu City were burglarized some time between last Sunday night and 8 a.m. yesterday.

An employee of Fastpak Global Express was the first to notice the theft when he reported for work at 8:05 a.m. He found the office in disarray.

Except for Nautica Travel and Tours and Hail View Pure Water, the five other concessionaires—Bodge Sales and Cellular Phone Services, Clinika Dental, Titay’s Rosquillos, Memento Flower Shop and Mantaring Leather Shop—lost cash, assorted high-end cellular phones and assorted products.

The eight concessionaires occupy the mall’s stalls number 144 to 151 at the right wing adjacent to Jollibee fast food restaurant.

As if taunting the police investigators, the burglars even left behind a drawing of heart with the words “Bibilid Boys” on top of a wooden table inside Titay’s Rosquillos.

The thieves also consumed two tetra packs of juice and left these on the same table. They also took out two cans of soft drinks from the refrigerator but did not drink these. They just left the cans near the drawing.

Inside the dental clinic owned by Dr. Rochelle Ouano, the burglars also used her laboratory gown in cleaning themselves off the dusts they got from crawling in the ceiling.

From CR

Initial investigation by the operatives of the Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) and the Fuente Osmeña Police Station showed that the burglars gained entry into the stalls by destroying a portion of the plywood ceiling in the comfort room beside Bodge cell shop.

The burglars made their way into the stalls by detaching a plywood ceiling in each of the stalls.

Joey Acero II, proprietor of Bodge Sales and Services, told Sun.Star Cebu that he lost at least 15 high-end cellular phones and five assorted cellular phones, which were entrusted to them for repair.

Lucky coins

At Fastpak, the outlet in-charge, who requested not to be named, said that they lost P7,000 cash in proceeds and his personal Nokia 2100 cellular phone worth P3,500.

At the dental clinic, the burglars took Ouano’s “lucky coins,” consisting of P5 and P1 coins amounting to at least P100.

Marivel Tundag of Titay’s told Sun.Star Cebu that the burglars took the P2,000 inside the cash drawer.

Tundag said they will conduct an inventory of the products to determine if the burglars also took some of the delicacies such as otap, rosquillos and others with them.

At the flower shop, the culprits got the P1,000 cash that was collected by flower arranger Edwin Repollo last Saturday. At Mantaring, an employee said they did not lose cash but the burglars took the office cellular phone, a Nokia 8210.

They are still conducting an inventory of their belts and wallets.

The security guard detailed in the area, Arnel Ardiente of the Lapu-Lapu City Risk and Security Agency, was invited for questioning. SPO3 Ulysses Racaza, one of the TRS investigators, said that Ardiente served his post from 11 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. yesterday.

Ardiente, in an interview with reporters, however, said he was suffering from loose bowel movement and had to leave the area from time to time to relieve himself.

He said he did not use the comfort room used by burglars in gaining entry into the stalls because it was locked and he had to walk a few meters away to another toilet.

Latent prints were already taken by the personnel of the Cebu City Police Office Scene of the Crime Operations that would help the investigators identify the burglars. (JST)
