Ex-girlfriend sues Pacman for violence, kid’s support
A woman who said that Manny Pacquiao is the father of her child yesterday went to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office to file charges against the boxing champion.
Joanna Rose Bacosa, 24, said Pacquiao has not given support to their two-year-old child since November last year.
Pacquiao, in an interview on national television last night, alleged that Bacosa is only out to milk him of his money.
He said Bacosa demanded P15 million from him so she would not tell anyone of their affair and lovechild.
Pacquiao earned $2 million prize money after he knocked out Erik Morales in the tenth round last Jan. 22 in Las Vegas.
Bacosa narrated in a television interview that she last met Pacquiao in Cebu in November last year at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, where she was given P3,000 by Pacquiao.
Pacquiao’s close friend, Rex “Wakee” Salud, who provided the plane tickets for the mother and child’s trip to Cebu from Manila, believes the girl is only out to get money from the boxer.
Salud said Bacosa’s lawyer, Victor Rodriguez, has been behind the drama.
Rodriguez yesterday accompanied Bacosa to the prosecutor’s office, where they filed charges of violence against women and children against Pacquiao, and to seek support for the boy.
The lawyer said Pacquiao has violated Republic Act 9262, which protects women from violence.
“Pacquiao has been giving support even if he isn’t sure if the child is his, as the girl had another boyfriend),” Salud said. “Nanguwarta lang ang abogado (The lawyer is just out to make money).”
To ascertain if the child is his, Pacquiao suggested that the child be subjected to a DNA test, to which Bacosa agreed.
Despite the controversy, Pacquiao said he still has the support of his wife, Jinkee. He said he had told his wife about his affair, and that it was difficult at first for Jinkee.
Salud also said that Jinkee already knew about the affair before Bacosa came out.
“There were times when Jinkee personally gave Bacosa money,” Salud said.
Meanwhile, Bacosa’s mother appeared on national television and asked Bacosa not to go on with the case.
“It’s enough that they know about this,” she said in a television news report. “Manny will talk to you after this.”
For her part, Bacosa, who hails from Palawan, said she only wants Pacquiao to extend support to her child.
She said she got worried when Pacquiao no longer communicated with her after they met in Cebu last November. She called and sent text messages to Pacquiao but did not get any reply until she met with Rodriguez last week.
In an earlier report, Bacosa said she first met Pacquiao in February 2003 at a billiard hall and videoke bar of Pan Pacific Hotel in Malate, Manila, where she worked as a “spotter” and waitress.
She said Pacquiao was at the place almost every night. She described Pacquiao as “nice and sweet” and paid more attention to her than the rest.
They first went out on a date in April 2003. Although she knew Pacquiao had a wife and two children, Bacosa said she went with him because she was in love with him.
They drove to a hotel in Pasay City and checked in at the same hotel two more times. She said Pacquiao tried to give her money each time they went out, which she declined, telling him she was not a sex worker.
Bacosa learned she was pregnant in 2003. She said Pacquiao appeared jubilant when she broke the news to him. In November 2003, Pacquiao gave her P300,000 as a Christmas gift, which she used to pay her hospital bills. She gave birth in January 2004. (JCT/With ESL)
