Serna: Water under Wowowee By Roger Serna Sounds & Images
MUCH has been said about the stampede that happened hours before the scheduled anniversary presentation of the popular TV show Wowowee. Expectedly, some finger pointing occurred as well as discussions on what went wrong, what should have been done, and so on and so forth were the staple here and there for quite some time.
That’s water under the bridge now. What the rest of us, who had been spared from the heartrending incident, can do is perhaps go out of our way to give whatever help we can afford to spare to, at least, be able to comfort in one way or another those whose loved ones have not been lucky enough.
We can also hope that lessons have been learned from the disaster so that nothing like it or anything close will happen. We can likewise pray for the souls of those who perished. Sad.

Four days from now, the world will again be celebrating one of the most anticipated dates year after year—none other than the day of hearts, Valentines Day to be exact.
Business establishments have again cooked up treats, gimmicks and all to attract clients, be they lovers, couples or otherwise. Portofino Resort, for one, located in Brgy. Angasil, Lapu-lapu City, came out with the promo dubbed Moonlight Valentine with special menu, roses for ladies and wine for two and the chance to be one of the five winners of an overnight stay for two.
Other enterprising individuals and groups have also thought of other ways for lovers to celebrate the special date. Some of these are concerts and similar shows involving solo performers and groups.
If one just takes time to scan the pages of local papers or take some time to read posters and other information materials, most probably he or she will be able to find one treat that suits his or her particular need or taste.
Still, for the more imaginative ones including those who want to save on possible expenses, parks, beaches and other places where nature is at its best can provide the perfect setting for whispering sweet nothings and the like.
Imagination, creativity and ingenuity are of great help at this time. It’s still four days to go. You still have enough time to use these attributes of yours.
Or, you and your loved one can join the rest in still another anticipated event happening tomorrow, the CloseUp Lovapalooza at the FGU Ayala Business Park, to set the right mood.
Who knows? Many beautiful things may happen before, during or after the event. Nice ideas might also crop up as a result of the experience. Worth joining, right? Why not?
You’re loveless? Ahh, well, hmmm… wait… that’s a problem. Ha-ha!

There are post-Valentine shows for those who cannot celebrate with the rest of the world on that special day. One of these is that of the Hawaii-based band Kalapana which popularized the songs like The Hurt, Nightbird, Real Thing, Juliette, Naturally and For You I’d Be Chasing Rainbows.
As a backgrounder, Kalapana was formed in 1973 with the original members composed of DJ Pratt, Malani Bilyeu, Lindsay Zanuck Kapala and Jenji Sano. Later, Michael Paulo Tatsuo on saxophone and flute and Manoha Garin Poliah on drums contributed their talents to produce Kalapana’s distinctive sound.
Aside from the aforementioned songs, the group will also be singing songs from its new Blue Album. Kalapana World Tour (The Cebu Concert) will be at the Pacific grand ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino on Wed., Feb. 15.

Cebu’s very own and Ultimate Born Diva grand winner Raki Vega will also be dishing out your favorite love songs in the show dubbed Celebrate Love.
Venue is SM City Cebu Cinema 1. Date is Feb. 17. Take note.

The first day winner in the small division of Little Big Star Cebu hosted by Crystal Voice of Asia Sheryn Regis is a little boy named Robert Villar.
Robert sang a fast tempo Tagalog song that did not require the young singer to belt out yet that week’s judges (Cebuana divas Girlie Lapinid-Laspinas and Eva Santos and ABS-CBN’s Enrico Santos) chose him over the two female co-contestants.
That should serve as a clue to other hopefuls who think belting those vocally challenging songs is the only way to winning in a singing competition.
