Capitol marks start of P34.2M projects

MANUFACTURERS, suppliers and contractors are being invited to bid in the Capitol’s millions of pesos worth of infrastructure projects and purchases meant to ensure a more effective delivery of services in the municipalities.

The Province is finally bidding out the P15-million roll-on roll-off port in Maya, Daanbantayan, Cebu, gateway to the tourism island of Malapascua.

Construction of the port has been talked about in the previous administration yet, when the need for a safe facility for Malapascua was cited.

Tourists, foreign and domestic alike, flock to the island because of its white sand beaches and dive sites.

Contractors or prospective bidders have until Feb. 13, to submit letters of intent for this undertaking, funded by the Capitol. Opening of bids will be on March 7.

Buy vehicles

The Provincial Government is also purchasing 12 units of fire trucks and accessories, worth P10.2 million, 12 more units of military jeeps worth P2.4 million, and 20 units of mini dump trucks worth P5 million, among others.

Several towns in Cebu province still have no fire trucks, while the military jeeps will also be given to the municipalities to help their police force. Several batches of military jeeps were received by various towns last year and last month.

The issuance of bidding documents for the dump trucks and the fire trucks will be from Feb. 8 to 28, while opening of bids will be on March 1.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Vice Governor will also purchase 18 sets of laptops, totaling P1,637,800.

Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez Jr. informed the Provincial Board members of this in a privilege speech last Monday, when he called the board to momentarily forget politics and work without rancor.

PB work

The notebook computers will be of great help to the Board members in their legislative work, said Sanchez.

Meanwhile, other items for bidding include another laptop for the Provincial Planning and Development Office, a laboratory equipment for the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office, an ECG machine for the district hospital in Pinamungajan, and venetian blinds for 17 district hospitals.

Issuance of bid documents started last Feb. 7 and will end on Feb. 27. (JPM)
