Yap gets fresh term, promises improvements for Asean meet

RETIRED Major General Adelberto F. Yap was reappointed by the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) board as general manager during its monthly board meeting yesterday, considering his expertise in aviation security and safety.

Under the MCIAA Charter, the MCIAA board is the appointing authority, although the appointment is still subject to the concurrence of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

Yap’s reappointement was approved on mass motion.

Earlier, Assistant Secretary Nilo Jatico of the Air Transportation Office (ATO), also MCIAA alternate chairman, said Yap deserves to be general manager because he is a decorated pilot, a multi-awarded former Philippine Air Force commanding general and has undergone seminars and training abroad on aviation security and safety.

Yap is a founding member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which sets the world standards for airport management.

Line-up

With his reappointment, Yap told Sun.Star Cebu that he will fast-track the completion of projects for the Asean Ministers’ Summit in December 2006.

These include the rehabilitation of airport ramps, passenger board and disembarking tubes, administration building and alternate runway.

Yap said that MCIAA board members Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, Valeriano Avila, Renato Osmeña, Gordon Joseph, Winglip Chang, Nilo Jatico, Tourism Director Patria Autora Roa, Justice Under-secretary Ramon Liwag and Budget Director Ma. Teresa Abal will implement P800 million worth of projects this year. (EOB)
