Sun.Star nails sixth overall title

ANOTHER Cebu City Tre-Medialympics, another over-all title for Sun.Star Cebu.

Sun.Star slowed down in the last two events of the Tri-Medialympics, but still won its sixth straight crown, earning 352 points, 100 points clear of second placer The Freeman, while the Cebu Daily News got the third spot with 181 and Bombo Radyo was a distant fourth with 37 points.

Sun.Star swept the table tennis and dart’s Men’s and Women’s events, while taking the billiard women’s title, chess, scrabble and lawn tennis.

Seven events

The defending champion already earned 165 points in topping the first seven events, some earned the easy way after opponents never bothered to show up in the final round.

In the major events, Sun.Star took the third spot in basketball, behind champion Bombo Radyo and runner-up HomeRadio, while finishes second to The Freeman in the Men’s and Women’s athletics event. In the swimming competition, Sun.Star took the Men’s title while finishing third in the Women’s events.

The Freeman also topped the volleyball event, and took the second overall spot with its strong showing in the final day earning 90 points from its win in the Athletics and parlor games.

Meanwhile, Sun.Star’s intense preparation for the Tri-Medialympics last year has developed an off-shoot --- the first Sun.Star Employees Table Tennis League, headed by Greg Fernandez.

After the elimination round, Jayjay Neri and Dave Tongangarong topped Class A-1, while Jade S Violeta and James Lumasag topped Class A-2. Neri will face Lumasag while Tongangarong will play Violeta in the semifinals.

In Class B, Juvey Veloso and Alex Badayos topped Class B-1 while Superbalita sports editor Jun Migallen and reporter Dennis Tabar took the top two spots in Class B-2. Migallen will face Badayos and Veloso will play Tabar in the cross over. (ML)
