Female detainee asks court to let her stayin lover’s jail dorm
True love cannot be bound by time and space. And for a woman facing a non-bailable drug case, it should go beyond prison walls.
Detained at the BBRC women’s dorm since 2003 for drug peddling, Leonor Ruta has asked Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Soliver Peras to allow her an overnight stay at the male dorm to be with her lover, Paquito Lacuña.
Spirit of love
“In the spirit of love, herein accused wishes to visit and celebrate with him at the BBRC (Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center) male dorm to spend some special moments,” she said in a motion.
The women’s dorm is located in Barangay Kalunasan, near the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
The male dorm, meanwhile, is in the old BBRC complex in Barangay Lahug.
Pending
“How can you deny a motion like this, especially during Valentines Day?” said Peras upon reviewing the motion yesterday.
While jail visits, in past years even overnight stays, are allowed by law, getting an inmate out of one facility to visit an inmate in another facility requires the supervision of jail guards.
Ruta’s motion was not yet ruled on as of press time.
Ruta and Lacuña were caught in a Drug Enforcement Unit buy-bust last May 21, 2003.
The two allegedly sold shabu to an undercover agent, whom they met at the Hallmark Hotel on Juan Luna St.
A subsequent search reportedly led to the discovery of a larger pack, containing some 11 grams of the regulated substance.
Lacuña, 45, and Ruta, 39, are both natives of Iligan City. (KNR)
