3 of quadruplets born in Cebu die
It was a tearful Valentine’s Day for the Yunzal couple after three of their quadruplets died at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).
VSMMC spokesperson Eliodoro “Nonoy” Mongaya Jr. said the third baby to come out of Emily Yunza’s womb died Monday night, while the first and fourth baby followed.
The third baby, who was named Jessa, died 11:50 p.m. Monday. Her sister Mae died at 2:50 a.m. yesterday while the fourth baby Jecca followed at 4 a.m.
Emily was admitted to the VSMMC last Friday after she felt pain in her womb.
According to Mongaya, doctors asked Emily if she could wait until the babies were nine months inside the womb, but she could not endure the pain.
Mongaya said doctors are monitoring the last baby, who was born premature Sunday noon.
The quadruplets were seven months in the womb before they were delivered by caesarian section.
Parents Emily, 28, and Allan, 36, are living in Barangay Cansaga, Consolacion. They hail from Baybay, Leyte.
Doctors told him that the lungs of the babies were too delicate.
Allan said that when the babies were delivered, doctors told him they would be under observation for five days.
“Gamay ang ilang baga. Usahay makalimot silag ginhawa (Their lungs are tiny. Sometimes, they couldn’t breathe),” said Yunzal, a security guard in an establishment in Mandaue City.
He said that because times are hard, he could not afford to buy the needed medicines to save their lives.
However, there were those who took pity on their plight and gave donations, which he used to buy medicines, Allan said.
He cited the Provincial Government, which gave P10,000.
“Ginoo na lay mahiba-wo adto (sa nahabiling bata) kay iya mang gihatag (Only God knows what will happen to the other baby),” he said.
The management of the Cebu Rolling Hills funeral homes has offered to take care of burial expenses. (JECT of Superbalita/With correspondent Nando Bertulfo)
