Despite Game 3 debacle, ‘Barakos still in control’

Red Bull coach Yeng Guiao is hardly perturbed and fazed by their loss in Game 3, remaining steadfast in his belief that they’re headed for dreamland in the San Mig Coffee PBA Fiesta Conference title playoff.

Notwithstanding their 97-103 defeat Sunday, Guiao expressed confidence they would pull through via the short or long route in this best-of-seven series.

The articulate Red Bull mentor considers their loss Sunday only as minor hump in their bid for a return trip to ultimate glory in the league.

“It’s a wakeup call that if we relax, this team (Purefoods Chunkee) can beat us,” said Guiao.

“I think we didn’t play or put up the effort in the first half. When we tried to do it in the second half, it was too late. Purefoods had built up so much confidence in them then. Now, we know, we have to play heads up for 48 minutes,” Guiao added.

Talking things over the day after the loss, Guiao and his charges look forward to coming back strong to take the pivotal 3-1 lead in the series in Game 4 Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

It didn’t escape Guiao and his troops that they were given a dose of their own medicine by the Giants Sunday.

The Giants met the Barakos head-on on pressing and running and, at the same time, imposed their strength in the paint to dominate the third game of the series.

The Giants lorded it over the boards, 46-35, and piled up big points inside the paint courtesy of Marquin Chandler, Marc Pingris, Kerby Raymundo and Jondan Salvador. (PBA media bureau)
