PAL Interclub gets bigcorporate backing
DAVAO CITY – This year’s Philippine Airlines Interclub, the country’s oldest golf championship that had its beginnings in 1948, has garnered big corporate support once again.
Tournament chairman Domingo T. Duerme disclosed that the 59th Men’s Regular Interclub and the 19th Seniors Interclub have attracted 14 major sponsors and nine other backers, attesting to the prestige and drawing power of the tournament widely acknowledged as the country’s national clubs championship.
Action Asia, Airbus, Boeing, GE Aviation, GMA 7, Honda Cars Davao, INQ7.net, Joey 92.3, Royal Caribbean International, Pagcor, People Asia, Premier Wine & Spirits, Rudy Project and UMBN are the major sponsors.
Seniors event
The corporate sponsors include ABS-CBN International, Fortune Tobacco and Radio Mindanao Network, while 96.3 WRock, Asia Brewery, Century Park Hotel, Honda Megamotors, SM City Davao and Tanduay Rhum are the minor sponsors.
The Seniors Interclub, a side event for players 55-years-old and above, gets going first on Feb. 17-19 at the Apo and Lanang golf courses. The centerpiece Men’s Regular championship follows on Feb. 22-25 at Apo and Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club.
This year’s competition has lured a cast of 71 teams for the Men’s Regular and 73 for the Seniors events. Of these, 54 clubs are from overseas, including the United States, Australia, Japan, Canada and Saudi Arabia.
Favorite
Luisita Golf and Country Club is heavily favored to capture its sixth straight Seniors Interclub crown while Manila Southwoods is the defending titlist and prohibitive favorite in the Men’s Regular competition.
