Pardo captain leads Guardo over Anchor

Pardo Barangay Captain Danny Lim carried Atan Guardo over Anchor, 98-92, scoring a game-high 32 for Guardo’s first win in the first conference of 2006 Spirit Forty Basketball League in Pardo, Cebu City.

Lim’s three unanswered baskets and the defense of Eddie Omayao and Dong Bariquit, which kept Anchor scoreless in the first four minutes, put Gurado ahead early in the game.

Anchor retaliated with Boy Velez at the helm, hitting mid-range jumpers that cut Atan Guardo’s seven-point edge to three, 25-28, going into the second quarter.

Velez, who tallied 21 points, sustained his shooting spree, which gave Anchor the lead, 42-41, at the half, while Jimmy Paquiao and Charlie Abellanosa, who connived for 29 points, solidified Anchor’s run in the second quarter.

Lim bounced back from his scoring silence, sinking two consecutive layups, while Congson and Byod tightened their defense to frustrate Velez.

Atan Guardo held on to a four-point advantage going into the final quarter, though Anchor stayed close with the help of Boy Dejos.

Lim, however, was unstoppable in the shaded area, which put Anchor into early penalty. Lim also had eight rebounds and dished out two assists.

In the other game, Towers prevailed over SFBA, 79-72.
