Purefoods Chunkee Giants brought the San Mig Coffee PBA Fiesta Conference championship series back to square one as they carved out a 96-91 Game 4 win yesterday versus the Red Bull Barakos at the Araneta Coliseum.

With the victory, the Giants and the Barakos are now tied with two games apiece, with the series reduced to a best-of-three affair.

Losing out to Red Bull’s Enrico Villanueva in the Best Player of the Conference race, Kerby Raymundo showed to all and sundry the stuff he’s made of as he made key plays in the waning seconds in leading the Giants to the series-tying win.

Raymundo finished the game with 21 points on top of nine boards to be adjudged Best Player of the Game.

With the odds on their side, the Barakos controlled the ballgame in the first three quarters as the scorers of the Giants struggled from the floor.

But when Purefoods’ offensive scoring machine woke up in the final canto, there was nothing the Barakos could do as the former overhauled a 63-70 third quarter deficit to a 90-85 edge in the last 2:13 of the game.

Import Marquin Chandler, despite playing with five personal fouls in the crucial stretch, managed to hang on in the game and finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while birthday boy James Yap chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds.

Cebuano Roger Yap Jr. also played a magnificent ballgame for the Giants as he added nine markers in helping his team tie the series.

Awesome Twosome

Villanueva led the losing Red Bull with 25 points and 13 rebounds, while import James Penny added 18 points and 17 caroms.

Villanueva and teammate Lordy Tugade bagged the Awesome Twosome award yesterday after edging out their counterparts in the ongoing championship series.

Villanueva is averaging 22 points a game and tallies 54 percent from the field, while Tugade norms 19.3 points per outing and has an hits 50 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.
